God's Mercy Makes the Difference

Bible reading: Luke 5:1-7

Beloved, on Monday we started discussing on this scripture. May we revisit it again to extract some honey from this divine rock.

Remember Peter's condition? He toiled all night but his skills, expertise and timing yielded no fruit. We do not downplay the fact that many factors, ranging from physical to spiritual, could have been responsible for Peters failure and disappointment. Whatever was the reason for Peter’s failure in his endeavor, it definitely proves the veracity of the word of God to the end that success is not a product of man’s effort

"I returned, and I saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all."(Ecclesiastes 9:11). Now that leaves a man totally helpless as he cannot determine what when or how he can be successful. The probability of success would be one in a thousand. Solomon was speaking here from the perspective of man—albeit a wise one—hence his finding according to him was based on his personal discovery and philosophy. He says “I returned and saw under the sun.” now that was the much that human reasoning can get to.

However, Paul speaking by the Spirit of Christ clearly tells us the accurate position thus; "So then it is not of him that willeth, or runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy" (Rom 9:16).

From the foregoing we are made to understand that it is the God factor in our race that helps us to succeed. Thus, it is the object of God’s grace and mercy that can make it. I have seen persons with great wisdom and intelligence whose endowments brought them nothing.I know of a dear friend who graduated as the best from her department with a resounding First class degree. She couldn't get job for years till the mercy of God found her.

But glory to God, we are objects of God’s mercies. If you have given your life to Jesus Christ and you have become a part of Him, you are an object of God’s mercy . Rom. 9:23-26 says, "And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory,  Even us, whom he hath called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles? As he saith also in Osee, I will call them my people, which were not my people; and her beloved, which was not beloved. And it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people; there shall they be called the children of the living God. See also Rom . 11:32.

Oh what a wonderful thing. We are a people “who, at one time, were a No-people, but now, are a people of God,--who had not been enjoying mercy, but now, have received mercy.”

You are not supposed to be going though life not sure of what life has in store for you. You are not supposed to be a victim of time and chance or of the probabilities of life. Those that are not born again can live like that. They can live by permutations. They can hope to be at the right place at the right time. That is why their anxieties and worries are understandable. If however you have given your life to Christ, you are not permitted to be anxious. In fact there is no reason why you should be because you don’t need to live by permutations and probabilities.
See God’s attitude towards your welfare:
“What thing soever ye desire when ye pray, believe that ye receive them and ye shall have them.”(Mark 11:24)

Jesus says what thing soever ye desire… You see God is on ground to honour your desires. Your desires matter to God. He does not just sweep them under carpet and says “Come on, serve me and settle for the crumbs. But He says, “What thing soever ye desire when ye pray, believe that ye receive them and ye shall have them.”
God has given you a blank cheque to have anything you desire

Prayers
Worship the God of mercy thank Him for making you an object of His mercy
Declare that your needs are met.
Declare that you believe that your desires are fulfilled.
Repent of your anxieties and worries
Tell God that you cast them all on Him. Tell him you will not worry about them again from now on and ask him to sort them out by His mercies.
Now pray for the church, Nigeria and me.
