The Spirit Of Understanding

TEXT: ISAIAH 11:2
And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;

MESSAGE
Yesterday we talked about the Spirit of wisdom who gives us revelation that empowers us to be and do what God says. Revelation is vehicle for the transmission of God's offer, but Understanding is key to receiving it.

Many people sat under the teaching of our Lord Jesus and He taught them with an amazing wisdom but they could just not understand what He was teaching. His disciples were dejected after the death of Jesus because they did not understand the plan of redemption which includes the fact that Jesus will resurrect. Meanwhile, Jesus has been teaching them all these while. They only eventuslly understood when He "...opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures" (Luk 24:45). He did this when He "...breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost" (John 20:22)

No matter the revelation, without understanding, it cannot benefit us. Notice that in the parable of the sower, the only heart that does not receive any impact of the seed (which is the word of God) at all is the heart pictured as the wayside. Its peculiar challenge is that it lacks understanding (Matt 13:9).

Anytime we have understanding of God's word, our miracle is automatic (Mat 13:15). So that devil does his best to harden man's heart . This is because hardness of the heart makes a man not to understand God's word. That is why Jesus said,
"...have ye your heart yet hardened? ...How is it that ye do not understand?" (Mark 8:17&21)

Hardenness of the heart is a result of wrong perspective developed over time due to our experiences and information gathered through our five senses; and through the testimony of men. These form stronghold of arguments that raise themselves against the knowledge of God which the Spirit of wisdom seeks to give us. (2Cor 10:4) . So as you concentrate on the pain in your body for example, you can not receive the revelation that you have been healed by the stripes of Jesus and so you cannot receive the healing. But the Spirit of Understanding works to change our perspective.

Thus when we get revelation of the power of God for example, we may still be hardened against it because our challenges that we appreciate by our physical senses are more real to us than the revelation of the power of God. But the Spirit of Understanding can step in to open your eyes to the GREATNESS of that power thereby making it more real to us than our challenge (Read Eph 1:17-18). He sort of open another sense in us to be able to see from the perspective of God. Then we can internalize the revelations given us and then it will work for us. If you still doubt God's words, if God's word seems powerless in your life and miracles still fly over your head as if God does not know you, you evidently need the Spirit of understanding. Like every manifestation of the Spirit, we receive this manifestation, by desirinbg it, meditating on God's word and praying

PRAYER
Thank you Father for the operation of the Holy Spirit in my Life and your Church

I open myself now to the manifestation of the Spirit of Understanding

Father, Let the eyes of my understanding be flooded with light that I may know the hope of your calling; the riches of your inheritance  and the exceeding greatness of the power you have made available to me

I am walking in spiritual understanding in the Name of Jesus

Pray in the Spirit, pray for the Church and pray for the nation against any resurgence of insurgence
